WOODLAWN RESIDENCY IN ARTS AND WORSHIP FALL 2026
The arts and faith have always been connected. The connection is best when faith communities empower the arts to create shared experiences. Honoring that connection, Woodlawn Community Fellowship is excited to offer a $2,500 Residency in Arts and Worship, beginning in August and culminating at Christmas Eve 2026. The residency runs 14–16 weeks and includes 4 special evening events centered around a unifying theme. The residency application will be open until 11:59 pm, June 10, 2026.
The resident will be a leadership partner with the Woodlawn pastor, Jonathan Coppedge-Henley, bringing diverse art forms into worship at Woodlawn.
Responsibilities include:
-Collaborating closely with Woodlawn’s Worship Team to co-design worship services, align artistic vision with liturgy, music and weekly arts experiences as part of Woodlawn’s worship, convening a collective of creatives as needed
-Collaborate with the Pastor in planning and implementing four themed evening events
-Collaborating with other Charlotte creatives to expand participation, share resources, and co-produce select elements
-Participating in an orientation/collaboration retreat with other creatives and Woodlawn members
-Helping craft Woodlawn’s vision for empowering creatives in Charlotte
-Serving as an educator, collaborator, and creator who is profoundly good to people
Compensation and support:
-$2,500 stipend for the residency term
-There is a budget for materials and other approved project expenses
Woodlawn Community Fellowship is committed to being an integral part of the thriving of our community, to being an inclusive congregation who honors the beautiful diversity of our city, and to “doing church different.” We believe the arts pull people together in powerful ways, making everyone better. Woodlawn is committed to diversity, peacemaking, belonging, and friendship, and is particularly mindful of centering the voices of vulnerable populations, intending to be a place of healing of the wounds too often created by religion.
